Yesterday I had the opportunity to go to the Cal-Ed Conference in Marina Del Rey. I saw many people who have been a great impact to our family and had the pleasure of making some new friends as well. I also had the great opportunity to see 3 workshops that really inspired me. The first one was presented by Tomas Garcia. It is always a pleasure to listen and learn from his experiences. The second workshop was presented by my co-workweek Edith Inda Wysinger, who was awarded the parent of the year award. Her presentation was very inspiring and well presented. It focused on how to do a one page profile for your child and how it can help in showing who your child is. Excellent job Edith!! The last workshop was a panel of College students from CSUN who shared their experiences growing up in a a home where ASL was not the primary language of communication. I really enjoyed hearing their stories.
Parents if you have a deaf child and have the opportunity to go to these great conferences, I really encourage you to go. You will go home empowered and with a more positive mindset on how to help, educate and raise your DHH child.
